What a Successful Career in Recruitment Can Look Like

Emily Squance • 28 July 2025

Career progression in recruitment isn’t always as fast-paced as the job itself. 94% of employees claim that would stay longer at a company that invests in their career development, yet many recruiters find themselves with limited access to structured training, unclear promotion pathways and insufficient leadership support.

If you're no longer developing, struggling to see your next step, or feeling like your effort isn't being recognised, you're not alone. There are better options.

From day one at the Recolution Group, our consultants are supported with an industry-leading development programme, clearly defined career pathways and a culture that rewards performance. Our four latest promotions show exactly what that looks like in action.

Richard Coombs

Promoted to Senior Delivery Consultant, Public Sector (Yolk Recruitment)

Twelve months of consistent delivery and client success has led to Richard’s promotion to Senior Delivery Consultant. Richard demonstrated persistence and professionalism, ultimately achieving his goal and setting a strong foundation for continued growth.

On his promotion, Richard said, "It has been 3 years since I arrived at Yolk, slightly ruffled following COVID. I didn’t know anything about recruitment and I was fortunate to be put in the Public Sector team. I was actively encouraged to back myself and there was a quick understanding I could be left to my own devices. I was entrusted with the temp desk, which suited my approach to work. I have been extensively backed by both the team and the manager in the lead-up to this promotion. Managing to use my strengths and being given a chance in an unfamiliar field has been a revelation.

I have really enjoyed giving people the same chance and the Recolution Group encourages a team spirit and friendly competition. I feel fortunate that in a later part of my working life, I have found a role that finally makes me smile."

Celyn Summers

Promoted to Consultant, Legal (Yolk Recruitment)
Celyn joined Yolk as an Associate just nine months ago. In that short time, she has opened multiple new client accounts, demonstrated commercial agility, and exceeded the criteria for promotion. Now operating at Consultant level, she is already tracking toward her next step with strong momentum.

Liam Reid

Promoted to Principal Consultant, Engineering (Yolk Recruitment)
Liam has achieved consecutive promotions over the last two performance periods. His ability to build long-term relationships, coupled with a consultative approach to client development, has established him as a fundamental member of Yolk's Engineering team. His promotion to Principal Consultant is a testament to his continued strategic focus and sustained results.

Rhys Jones

Promoted to Senior Principal Consultant, Engineering (Yolk Recruitment)
Rhys has become a standout example of fast-track career progression at the Recolution Group. In just over two years, he has moved from recruitment rookie to Senior Principal Consultant, five promotions achieved through exceptional drive, delivery, and commercial performance. Rhys' progression is now a benchmark for success across the group.

Is your recruitment agency really supporting you? The truth about recruiter wellbeing and what to look for in your next role. If you work in recruitment, you already know how rewarding it can be. But you'll also know how turbulent the high targets, fast turnarounds, emotional conversations and the unpredictability can feel if the right support isn't in place . You can go from landing a placement in the morning to a promising candidate prospect ghosting you in the afternoon. If your workplace doesn't have your back, it can quickly take a toll. That’s why mental health support in recruitment isn’t a 'nice-to-have'. It’s a must . It's just as important as finding the right roles for clients and candidates. P rioritising mental health in the workplace is essential to building a strong, supportive team. Business leaders and managers in recruitment have not only a crucial role to play, but an opportunity to shape a culture that helps people thrive. After all, people perform at their best when their workplace is supportive. You spend around 40 hours a week at work (often more in recruitment), so the culture around you has a huge impact on your overall psychological wellbeing. Working at one of the best recruitment companies should mean logging on every morning confident that the environment has been built with your health, happiness, and success in mind. Mental health is more than an annual campaign. We’ve designed the Recolution Group employee experience in a way that ensures our team feels valued, heard, and looked after every single day . Here’s how we do it: We provide free access to a qualified professional health and wellbeing service to all employees. Our flexible approach with full tech enablement to work from home allows our staff to choose their own approach to work-life balance, depending on what fits them. We have a boosted annual leave policy, so everyone can spend more time with the people they love. We have a cycle to work scheme set up to keep our minds and bodies healthy. We know that when our people are feeling their best, they do incredible things. And we’re committed to making that possible 365 days a year.
